About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Imara [to confirm] (the company's legal name and address) about using the Imara app and this website. By creating an account you accept them. Some parts of Imara have their own short terms in the app (a shop's, a caretaker's and a house hunter's); where they say more, they apply too [to confirm].

Your account

  • One account per phone number. You sign in with that number and a six digit code; keep your phone and your code to yourself.
  • Give your true name and your own ID. Imara checks IDs, and may refuse or pause an account whose ID does not check out.
  • You must be [to confirm] years or older.
  • One person can use Imara in more than one way (a tenant who also runs a shop, a landlord who also rents a home). Each way has its own pages and rules.

The different ways to use Imara

  • Landlords confirm that they own, or may let, the buildings they add, and that what they say about a home on offer is true. New buildings and homes on offer are checked by Imara before anyone sees them.
  • Agents and managers act for the landlord who invited them, only within what that landlord allows.
  • Caretakers and other team members act for their landlord. What the landlord assigns, the caretaker cannot change.
  • Tenants use Imara for their tenancy. The lease between a tenant and a landlord is between them; Imara keeps it and shows it, and is not a party to it [to confirm].
  • Shops and services are responsible for what they sell, their prices, their deliveries and their refunds.
  • House hunters can look, save, book viewings and talk to the people who show homes. They cannot post.

Money

  • Payments in Imara will be made with M-Pesa when it is connected. Until then, Imara records payments; it does not hold anyone's money [to confirm].
  • A payment that arrives without saying what it is for is matched by a person, on its own page. Imara never guesses.
  • Landlords pay Imara a fee, shown on Your plan in Settings before it is charged [to confirm]. Shops pay for boosts and, if they choose it, for Books. Prices are shown in the app before you agree to them.
  • A month's books, once closed, do not change: a later correction is a line in the open month.

What you post and send

  • What you write is yours. You let Imara show it to the people it is meant for, in the places you put it [to confirm].
  • Be kind and truthful. No harassment, threats, someone else's private details, scams, spam, or anything illegal.
  • A building's managers may hide a neighbour's message in their own building's channels, with a reason; the writer is told.
  • Anyone can block or report someone. Imara's trust and safety team decides reports and may hide content or pause an account. A paused person is told why and can still write to support.
  • A post a shop paid to show is always marked Sponsored, with the shop's name.

Chats

Chats between people are kept on their phones, not on Imara's servers; if you lose your phone without a backup, they are gone. Chats the building keeps on record (with management, the team, a building's channels, Imara, and about an order or a viewing) stay on Imara's servers for both sides.

What is not connected yet

Until Imara launches, sign in codes, payments by M-Pesa, text messages and notifications while the app is closed are still being connected, and the app says so where they would be. [to confirm] (whether these terms should be in force before then.)

Ending

You can delete your account at any time from the app (how). Imara may pause or close an account that breaks these terms, and tells the person why [to confirm].

Responsibility

[to confirm] (limits of Imara's responsibility, what Imara guarantees about availability, and the consumer protections that cannot be limited under Kenyan law.)

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya [to confirm] (courts, or a mediator first).

Changes and contact

When these terms change in a way that matters, Imara tells you in the app before it takes effect. Questions: hello@imarahomes.app. Last written: 27 October 2026 (draft).
